Riaan Fourie
Riaan FourieSenior Orthotist
I’ve been involved in orthotics and prosthetics for the past 31 years. In that time, I developed an acute appreciation for lower limb biomechanics and the affect pathological gait has on the prosthetic and orthotic individual. This led to my focus on foot and lower limb orthotics and neuromuscular conditions affecting the individual’s ability to ambulate effectively and with less exertion and discomfort. I received my National diploma in medical orthotics and prosthetics from The Tshwane University of Technology in 1997 and completed my B-Tech degree in medical orthotics and prosthetics there as well in 2008. In all this time I have become convinced of the positive uplifting contribution orthotics and prosthetics have to the physically challenged and injured person. The ability to help others obtain their goals with the use of my skillset leaves me with a feeling of satisfaction, success, and accomplishment. This passion to solve complex problems has fueled me and is still fueling my endeavor every day to be better at what I do to ensure a better outcome for my patient. I have a keen interest in upper limb prosthetics as well and welcome and appreciate the unique challenge it presents to both the patient and the practitioner and have used both body powered and myoelectric solutions to upper extremity amputations. I do hope to meet you soon.
