Orthotics - Multiple Limbs - Case Study

Liezl was involved in a serious motorcycle accident in 2017 that left her without the use of her arms, hands and legs.

The physical rehabilitation centre said she wouldn’t walk again, she refused to accept this. She fought bravely daily and regained use of her upper extremities. This led to her initially only being able to use a wheelchair.

She diligently continued her physical rehabilitation program and forced herself to walk with much difficulty and determination using static stabilizing splints to relearn her ambulation pattern. She progressed on to a dynamic hip, knee, ankle, foot orthosis. Many said she should stop trying to walk…boy were they wrong!

Strength slowly returned and she later removed the hip support and even later she discarded the knee ankle foot orthosis.

Her dogged persistence paid off…
